L’Ortone is Tuscan cuisine handed down and revised with love by those who love their land and their profession.
Some people call us a contemporary trattoria, we feel we are the place where old-fashioned recipes and seasonal ingredients go hand in hand with today’s cuisine. Fresh pasta, homemade bread, selected ingredients and the warm welcome of those who are in love with what they do. Here at L’Ortone you can find passion and the idea of a fresh catering carried out by a young and close-knit staff.
We are in Sant’Ambrogio, just in front of the market, in the center of Florence but out of the hustle and bustle, in a neighborhood lived by Florentines.
Come visit us for a wine and a charcuterie board to eat at the counter or stop for lunch or dinner. In summer the veranda is always open and in winter we welcome you on two floors. having you around is what we like most, we are waiting for you!

Depending on the season you will find an always different menu.
The traditional recipes handed down in the family revisited with a current idea of cooking. The fresh pasta is homemade, but also the bread and desserts. We like to treat you well. The meat is chosen together with the trusted butcher at the market, because the Fiorentina had to be there. proposals suitable for everyone among the appetizers and main courses, without forgetting some vegetarian options. There is no shortage of off-menu items made with fresh ingredients we find at the moment, such as porcini mushrooms or truffles.
The wine cellar is one of our prides, because we know that what brings everyone together around the table is to start with a toast!

L’Ortone’s family
L’Ortone is a family that grows together, every day. And this is one of the ways we like to tell our story.
At the heart of it is Fede, leading the team with energy, vision, and a deep bond with his family, guided by his grandmother’s advice and by the presence of the big boss Simone, his father.
Then there is the dining room: smiles, care, and hospitality. It is the first glance, the small gestures, the attention to detail, and the way we look after everyone who walks through our door.
And then there is the kitchen: working hands, ideas taking shape, instinct, and constant exploration. This is where our dishes come to life, through technique, passion, and the ongoing desire to do things well.
A small curiosity: L’Ortone takes its name from an old story. The square that is now home to the Sant’Ambrogio market was once the agricultural land of the nuns of Santa Verdiana, enclosed by walls and hidden from the outside world. Today, that history still lives on in Via dell’Ortone, the street that connects Borgo La Croce to the open space of the market.
